Children are taught the sounds letters make. They will also learn how write letter sounds in words and apply these in sentences.
This term we aim to teach phonics twice a day. Children will apply the reading and writing skills they have learnt across curriculum areas. .
Reading is a key priorty at Charnwood. Children in Year One will take part in a Shared Reading session daily and will take part in a Guided Reading session at least once a week. In addition to this we plan regular opportunities for children to read and hear others read across curriculum areas including regular reading for pleasure sessions.
Writing is taught in English as part of Shared and Guided Writing sessions and practiced in many curriculum areas. a
The main focus for writing this term is developing children's confidence to write short sentences which include a capital letter, fingers spaces and end with a full stop.
